Oasis Brothers Sue Sound Technician to Block Auction of Rare Tapes
Oasis brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher are suing their sound technician to block the auction of hundreds of hours of intimate, unreleased band recordings from 1994 to 2001.
Noel and Liam Gallagher of the legendary rock band Oasis are taking legal action against their former sound technician, Hugh Richards, after he put hundreds of hours of intimate, unreleased band recordings up for auction, according to the Daily Mail. The collection, slated to be sold through Littleton Auctions in Worcestershire, was projected to fetch between 1.2 and 1.6 million pounds.
The Legal Battle and Auction Details
Legal documents were filed in the High Court of England against Richards, his son Owen, and the auction house to block the sale of the massive audio archive. The collection comprises 209 DAT tapes, 73 analog tapes, and three MiniDiscs, featuring soundchecks, rehearsals, and unfiltered conversations between the Gallagher brothers spanning from 1994—the year of their landmark debut album Definitely Maybe—through 2001.
"This belongs to him. It feels a bit rotten to do that to him when they are making tens of millions from their reunion," a source close to the matter told the Daily Mail.
While Richards reportedly approached the Gallaghers first to give them the opportunity to purchase the archive before turning to public sale, the negotiations collapsed. Oasis's legal team maintains that while Richards may physically possess the tapes, the intellectual property rights and copyrights remain firmly with the band.
Oasis Reunion Tour 2027
Amidst the legal drama, anticipation continues to build for the band's massive live comeback. Oasis is set to embark on their Live '27 tour in May 2027, launching with five shows at Celtic Park in Glasgow followed by 11 nights at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester. The tour will then travel across European and American cities before concluding with massive homecoming shows in September.
