Chip giant Nvidia announced a $3 billion investment in Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, as part of an expanded artificial intelligence partnership. The announcement follows Meta's massive capital raising plan, which was scaled up to $97.5 billion to fund the expansion of its computing infrastructure and AI development.

According to updated market reports, Meta increased its fundraising target from an initially planned $95 billion to $97.5 billion. Of this total, approximately $37.5 billion will be raised through the issuance of common stock and convertible preferred shares, while another $60 billion will be raised through an at-the-market share sales program.

Alongside Nvidia, rival chipmakers AMD and Broadcom have also expressed interest in purchasing Meta shares, with potential combined investments from the three hardware giants reaching up to $5 billion. Under the agreement, Meta will significantly expand its utilization of Nvidia computing infrastructure, including specialized systems designed to support the training and deployment of advanced generative AI models.

Furthermore, the two tech titans will deepen their collaboration around Muse, the AI agent launched by Meta last month, working jointly to enhance model performance and reduce operational costs. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the significance of the shift, noting that AI agents represent a new computing era where software can understand user goals, reason, use tools, and execute tasks autonomously.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg welcomed the expanded alliance, stating that the company is thrilled to continue working with Nvidia to deliver advanced AI models and personal agents to billions of users globally. This strategic investment adds to Nvidia's extensive venture portfolio, which includes stakes in OpenAI, Anthropic, Intel, and Elon Musk's xAI, reflecting the chipmaker's aggressive investment strategy amid soaring global demand for AI infrastructure.
