The National Security Council (NSC) published its updated threat assessment today (Sunday) for Israelis traveling abroad ahead of the High Holidays, a period when many Israeli citizens travel internationally. The publication aims to raise public awareness of global threats and encourage preventive measures.

The NSC emphasized that these are not new travel warnings, but rather a reflection of recent trends in terrorist activities. However, security officials marked the upcoming anniversary of the October 7 massacre as a highly sensitive date that could trigger security incidents targeting Israelis and Jewish communities worldwide.

Primary Threat Actors: Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas

Iran is designated as the primary state sponsor of terrorism, motivated by a desire to retaliate for recent setbacks. Tehran's efforts are focused on targeting Israeli diplomatic missions, high-ranking officials, and security personnel abroad.

Hezbollah poses a significant threat due to its declared intent to avenge the deaths of its senior commanders.

Strictly Prohibited by Law: Entry into Iraq, Yemen, Iran, Syria, and Lebanon is illegal for Israeli citizens due to immediate life-threatening risks.
Avoid Entirely: Jordan, Qatar, Somaliland, and Egypt (including the Sinai Peninsula, where Israelis continue to travel despite warnings).
High-Risk Countries: Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Somalia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Libya, and Algeria.

Security Recommendations for Travelers

To prevent violent incidents, the NSC issued the following guidelines for Israelis abroad:

"Avoid displaying Israeli or Jewish symbols, such as wearing a kippah or t-shirts with Hebrew writing, and minimize speaking Hebrew in crowded public spaces."

Refrain from posting real-time locations and travel itineraries on social media.
Remove or restrict any social media content indicating past or present service in the IDF or security forces to prevent personal targeting.
Maintain high alertness near Chabad houses, kosher restaurants, and synagogues.
Stay away from demonstrations, protests, and political discussions with strangers.
