Mike Novogratz Warns AI May Spark Largest Financial Bubble in History
Billionaire Mike Novogratz warns that artificial intelligence could fuel the largest financial bubble in history, surpassing the dot-com era, though the market rally may continue for years.

Billionaire Mike Novogratz, founder and CEO of Galaxy Digital, estimates that artificial intelligence could generate an unprecedented financial bubble, describing it as the largest seen in our lifetime and surpassing the dot-com bubble of the early 2000s. However, he projects that the market rally may continue for several years before reaching a potential collapse.
According to Novogratz, the artificial intelligence revolution could prove significantly more impactful than preceding technological shifts, including the internet and digital currencies. Yet, this immense potential risks driving investors toward inflated valuations that do not necessarily reflect companies' actual profit-generation capabilities.
Novogratz does not question the profound importance of artificial intelligence, but rather distinguishes between the technological revolution itself and the prices investors are willing to pay for associated companies. History demonstrates that even world-changing technologies do not always justify the valuations assigned by investors during peak enthusiasm.
One example he highlighted is Nvidia, the chipmaker that has become a symbol of the AI revolution. He noted that a scenario where the company's market capitalization reaches $10 trillion before the bubble bursts cannot be ruled out. This underscores how difficult it is to predict the timing of a bubble's burst and the peak stock valuations it will attain, even as a bubble forms.
Warning Signs for Investors
How can investors identify the onset of a market trend reversal? Novogratz suggests monitoring for signs of weakness, specifically a scenario where the Nasdaq index loses 20% to 25% of its value, attempts a recovery, but fails to return to previous highs. Such behavior could indicate a deeper shift in investor sentiment, in his estimation.
This warning arrives against the backdrop of massive investments by technology giants in computing infrastructure, chips, and data centers, alongside growing concerns regarding the gap between soaring expenditures and future technological revenues.
The inevitable comparison is to the dot-com bubble of the late 1990s, when internet stock valuations skyrocketed before the Nasdaq crashed by nearly 80% from its peak. As is well known, the internet itself did not disappear following the crash, but instead continued to transform the global economy.
Novogratz's message to investors is complex: the AI revolution may be genuine and world-changing, yet it can still spawn a massive speculative bubble. The central question, in his view, is not merely whether the bubble will burst, but how high the market will climb before it happens.
