New lead in the Eldar Dayan case: two helmets found near the disappearance site

The search for 23-year-old Eldar Dayan from Dimona continues today (Monday), and the police are trying to determine if a new finding collected in the field will help solve the case. During searches conducted in the Yarkon River, near the place where he was last seen, two helmets were found that match those suspected to have been worn by Dayan and his two friends on the day of the fight. The helmets were transferred to forensic laboratories for testing to determine if they belong to any of the involved parties.

Eldar's mother, Shilat Dayan, also participated in the searches. In a conversation with Walla, she said:

"They found the helmets, but how does that help me? Where is my child? Let the entire Israel Police stand on its feet and bring my child back to me."

The searches were carried out by Southern District detectives using technological means and drones. Parallel to the police forces, Dayan's family members also participated in the efforts to locate him.

Against the backdrop of the searches, the District Court extended the remand of Dayan's two friends, Omri David Peretz and Maxim Barberman, by three days. The court partially accepted the appeal, shortened the remand by one day, and maintained the gag order on the publication of their photos.

As reported, during the investigation, a new suspicion arose that Maxim Barberman threatened his friend Eldar Dayan with murder. Both are also suspected of attempting to run over one of the five young men involved in the fight in the Hod HaSharon area.

According to investigation findings, the incident began on July 18. Around noon, the three met a group of five local residents, and an argument escalated into a fight. It is suspected that Dayan punched one of the five, while Peretz and Barberman attempted to run over another. Later, the three were captured on security cameras at a gas station in Petah Tikva.

Police estimate that Eldar Dayan is not a victim of kidnapping but is hiding, and is wanted for questioning regarding his involvement in the fight. Sources clarify that the suspicion against him is relatively limited, while the main investigation focuses on his two friends. Police estimate that once located, he will be detained for questioning for no more than 24 hours.
