“We Embarrass You Enough”: Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Candid Admission
Prince George has turned 13 and officially entered his teenage years. Prince William and Kate Middleton shared that their eldest son now finds his parents embarrassing, much like any typical teenager.
Prince George is already 13, and according to a report in The Telegraph, he has officially entered the stage where his parents embarrass him — even if those parents are Prince William and Kate Middleton. During a family outing to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, the royal couple shared that George reacts to them just like an average teenager, only with media attention all around and opportunities for extra awkwardness from the parents.
“Be careful what you wish for,” Kate said after Olympic cycling champion Dame Laura tried to convince her and William to try the sport. When TV presenter Gethin Jones asked the three children if they would like to see their parents take on the challenge, George settled for one answer: “No.” William himself already understood what it was about and replied:
“We embarrass you enough as it is.”
Alongside George, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8, were also at the event. William and Kate, both 44, celebrated George's 13th birthday in a video they posted at the end of July, in which the young prince is seen spending time on vacation with his siblings.
George's upcoming year is expected to include a more serious milestone: on June 15, Kensington Palace announced that he would begin studying at Eton College in September. This is the prestigious boarding school where William and his brother Prince Harry also studied as teenagers, intended for boys aged 13 to 18. According to the school's website, it is designed to allow them to flourish and have a positive impact on others during a healthy, happy, and fulfilling life.
William has spoken in the past about his parenting approach. On a BBC Radio 1 panel, he said he encourages the children to talk about feelings — sometimes, he said, too much. “I get all the details,” he said. “And I love it, it's amazing.” Still, he admitted that he fights the parental instinct to fix everything for them: “I have to remind myself that I don't need to fix everything, but I do need to listen, and it's important to just be okay with those feelings and reactions.”
