"We know who you are": The American move against Turkish aid to Iran

The US Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions today, Friday, on three Turkish financial entities, adding them to the list of individuals and entities subject to restrictions: the investment bank Golden Global and two associated companies dealing in investment management and asset leasing.

The measure involves the freezing of their assets located within US jurisdiction and a general prohibition on US citizens and companies from conducting transactions with them. Concurrently, the department issued a temporary license allowing for the completion and orderly termination of certain transactions with the blocked entities.

In a statement from the US Department of the Treasury published on X, it was noted:

"Today, as part of Operation 'Economic Isolation', the US Department of the Treasury cut off vital funding arteries of the Iranian regime in Turkey. The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed sanctions on the Turkish bank Golden Global and its subsidiaries, which facilitated transactions in the amount of tens of millions of dollars for the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guards, and provided the Iranian regime with vital access to correspondent banking services, which allowed it to transfer funds around the world."

US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent stated:

"Financial institutions continue to learn the hard way that we are serious about Operation 'Economic Isolation'. Although we hope that there will be no need to impose sanctions on additional banks, this ultimately depends on the speed with which the international community comes to its senses and ceases to support the murderous Iranian regime. We know who you are, we know where you are, and we will continue to act together with our allies and partners until we bury the head of the Iranian snake."
