The education system is resuming full school trip activities in the north of Israel. The Ministry of Education announced the end of the trip freeze following an IDF clarification that the policy governing trips in the region remains unchanged.

Resumption of Trips and Safety Guidelines

The trips will take place in accordance with regulations, subject to receiving the necessary approvals from the Trip Coordination Bureau and in compliance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Education's trip situation room. Alongside the return to routine, the Minister of Education instructed that safety guidelines be refreshed and sharpened for all educational institutions.

The central emphasis is placed on an absolute prohibition against touching unexploded ordnance, ammunition, and suspicious objects, as well as the obligation to immediately report any suspicious object or dangerous finding to the authorized authorities.

Investigation into the Ma'alot Yeshiva Tragic Incident

Alongside the renewal of trips, the Ministry of Education continues to investigate the circumstances of the severe incident during the Ma'alot Yeshiva trip, in which Elazar Yair Wilensky tragically lost his life. According to the ministry's announcement, an initial review indicates that the route coordinated and approved through the Trip Coordination Bureau meets the requirements of the authorized bodies and does not include restricted movement sections.

However, the ministry emphasizes that the inquiry into the circumstances of the incident has not yet been completed, including the examination of the exact route taken by the group on the ground. Some of the field trip leaders, including the guide who led the group, were injured in the incident and are still receiving medical treatment.

Comprehensive Review and Transparency

In parallel with the professional examination conducted by the Security Division of the Ministry of Education and the Israel Police investigation, the Minister of Education instructed the ministry's comptroller to conduct a comprehensive review of the event in all its components. The Ministry of Education committed to presenting the findings of the investigations to the public with transparency, in accordance with the progress of the inquiry and subject to investigation restrictions.

The Ministry of Education reiterated its deepest condolences to the family of Elazar Yair Wilensky and added that it prays for the swift and complete recovery of all the injured.
