North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected a new defense industry museum displaying an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of reaching the United States, state media KCNA reported on Tuesday. The report comes a day after US President Donald Trump stated he might meet with Kim during his planned trip to Asia for the APEC summit in China this November.

Weapons Display and Strategic Messaging

Kim, accompanied by his daughter Ju Ae and wife Ri Sol Ju, attended the museum's opening ceremony on Sunday. According to Reuters, published photos show a wide range of weaponry developed under his leadership, from unmanned aerial vehicles to the Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile.

Shin Jong-woo, secretary-general of the Korea Defense and Security Forum, noted that an exhibit in front of the missile launcher hints at a multiple warhead design, featuring a world map indicating strike ranges reaching beyond North America to the Middle East, Australia, and South America.

"It appears the exhibition is designed to highlight the achievements of Kim's weapons development program, creating an impression of propaganda aimed at gaining strategic advantage ahead of a possible summit," Shin said.

Institutionalizing Nuclear Achievements

Analysts assess that the museum's establishment reflects a broader effort by Kim to turn temporary weapons displays into permanent symbols of the regime's achievements. Professor Lim Eul-chul from the Institute for Far Eastern Studies at Kyungnam University explained that by institutionalizing military accomplishments, Kim presents nuclear and missile escalation as a completed and ongoing achievement.

Meanwhile, North Korea confirmed it conducted a tactical ballistic missile test on Monday to verify a technical upgrade of a key component. South Korea's military reported that Pyongyang launched several ballistic missiles toward the sea off its eastern coast, marking its fourth launch this month following a recent hypersonic missile test by Seoul.
