Nofar Energy CEO Ofer Yanai Emphasizes Cash Flow and AI Power Infrastructure
Nofar Energy CEO Ofer Yanai highlights positive cash flow as the ultimate metric for corporate success, detailing the company's global expansion, AI-driven energy strategies, and ambitious fivefold revenue growth targets.

Ofer Yanai, founder and CEO of Nofar Energy, emphasizes that positive cash flow is the single most critical metric for a successful company. Speaking at the "Dor HaShkaot" (Investment Generation) festival organized by the financial house in cooperation with Globes, Yanai discussed opportunistic acquisitions, artificial intelligence infrastructure, and his bold growth projections for the energy sector.
From Kibbutz Roofs to Global Expansion
Recalling the origins of Nofar Energy, Yanai explained that while pursuing his MBA, he read an article predicting that renewable energy would reach grid parity by 2050. Convinced that the transition would happen much faster, he registered Nofar in 2011. "In 2012, I cracked the model with the kibbutzim. In 2015, I said 'let's install floating systems,' and in 2018, 'let's deploy storage facilities.' In 2020, while the world was in disarray due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided it was the right time to take Nofar public," Yanai told the audience.
From its initial focus on renewable generation, Nofar evolved into a global player spanning Spain, Italy, Eastern Europe, and the United States. Recognizing the massive power demands driven by artificial intelligence, Yanai steered the company toward conventional power generation as well. Through strategic moves such as acquiring a stake in the Dorad power plant via Alumey and purchasing an asset in the United States at fifty cents on the dollar during a bankruptcy proceeding, Nofar positioned itself to capture value from the AI revolution.
Cash Flow as the Ultimate Compass
When asked what single financial indicator retail investors should prioritize, Yanai pointed unequivocally to positive cash flow. "Every project we undertake generates positive cash flow. That is what enables us to grow," he stated, noting that Nofar currently yields over 1 billion NIS annually on a relatively lean balance sheet. The company has set an ambitious target to reach 6 billion NIS in annual revenues within three years, representing a fivefold increase.
Addressing the recent correction in renewable energy stocks, Yanai argued that the market is mispricing long-term value due to macroeconomic shifts, including higher interest rates driven by surging investments in data centers. Drawing a parallel to Elon Musk's compensation structure, Yanai commented on his own performance-based incentives tied to achieving a 16 billion NIS valuation, expressing confidence that the target will be reached well before 2028.
AI Infrastructure and Market Realities
Yanai dismissed comparisons between the artificial intelligence boom and past trends like cannabis stocks, stressing that AI fundamentally impacts the broader economy. To satisfy the astronomical power requirements of data centers and major tech firms, energy companies must innovate and secure reliable power sources. Concluding with advice for retail investors, Yanai recommended diversified index funds alongside selective investments in thoroughly researched companies led by visionary management.
