"No mandate for draft dodging": Mass protest planned at Habima Square

The Movement for Quality Government, the October Council, the Shield of Israel Forum, Paratroopers for Democracy, 555 Patriots, and the Protest Organizations Forum will hold a demonstration this evening (Saturday) at Habima Square in Tel Aviv. The protesters are calling for the establishment of a state commission of inquiry to investigate the October 7 massacre and demanding equality in the burden of war.

The demonstration is being held three days before the Supreme Court hearing on petitions against the law freezing the arrest of deserters. The hearing is scheduled for this coming Tuesday before an expanded panel of nine judges, with the Movement for Quality Government serving as one of the leading petitioners.

"The Knesset may have dissolved, but the government has not ceased its attempts to evade responsibility and increase the burden on the serving public," the organizers stated.

The Movement for Quality Government and the organizing groups are calling on the public "not to lose hope, and to come and take part in the struggle for the character of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state."

Speakers scheduled for the demonstration include Gal Goren, son of the late Avner and Maya Goren from Kibbutz Nir Oz, Major General (res.) Prof. Amos Gilad, Adv. Iris Shmueli, a member of the executive committee of the Movement for Quality Government, and Dr. Meital Pinto, an expert in public law.
