A massive sinkhole has swallowed part of actor Nicolas Cage's $10.5 million Malibu estate following heavy rains and coastal erosion, leaving the driveway collapsed.
What was supposed to be one of Nicolas Cage's most prized oceanfront properties in Malibu turned into a scene of devastation in an instant. Part of the Oscar-winning actor's luxury estate, which he purchased for $10.5 million, simply collapsed into the sea.
A Massive Sinkhole and Collapsed Infrastructure
Footage from the scene reveals a massive sinkhole that opened up precisely where the parking area and the driveway leading to the house once stood. Photographs published overseas show that the road leading to the estate caved in, with asphalt and concrete swallowed up alongside portable chemical toilets from a construction site, broken fence sections, and large chunks of concrete.
Additional footage shows workers in orange vests arriving to assist, alongside a fire truck parked near the house with a yellow hose stretching from the vehicle, apparently attempting to pump out water that contributed to the sinkhole's formation.
Background and Emergency Response
Cage, 62, purchased the estate in 2024. The home spans approximately 372 square meters, featuring ocean views and a private balcony—and now significant damage to its surrounding grounds. The actor himself has yet to comment on the incident.
According to KTLA, emergency crews arrived at the scene early Tuesday morning following a report regarding a suspected gas main leak. Reports indicated that a massive sinkhole, estimated to measure about ten by ten meters, was caused by coastal erosion. Despite the extent of the damage, media outlets reported no evacuation orders for the estate and no injuries. The incident occurred following a day of heavy rainfall in the Los Angeles area, as high waves battered the coast of Southern California in the wake of Hurricane Marie.
