In the heart of the compound, behind fences of criminal indifference, two horses were dying slowly, trapped in a reality of starvation and appalling living conditions.
The inspectors who raided the site were horrified by the heartbreaking sight: ribs protruding through thin skin and dull eyes, while their emaciated bodies testified to long months of deprivation and lack of proper care. In one of the stalls, the reality was particularly cruel; the door was stuck and completely blocked under thick layers of compressed bedding, a silent testimony that the miserable animal had not been able to go out into the fresh air or see daylight for a very long time.
Inside dirty and contaminated containers, only a minimal amount of stagnant water remained, while no food was found, leaving the animals to perish without mercy. The horses not only suffered from extreme thinness and complex health issues, but also carried significant mental trauma from long weeks of loneliness and pain.
Most shocking is the fact that the owner chose to consistently ignore repeated inspections and urgent demands to fix the deficiencies, abandoning the animals to their fate despite all warnings given over the last two months.
The head of the livestock control unit stated that this is a very serious offense of keeping animals in appalling conditions while ignoring the law, and emphasized the determination to bring those responsible to justice.
At the last moment, before hope was completely lost, the horses were urgently moved to a protected facility. They are now beginning a long and arduous journey of physical and mental rehabilitation, receiving comprehensive therapeutic support and adapted nutrition.
