Nine Injured in Acid Leak at Kiryat Gat Swimming Pool
A spill of approximately 100 liters of hydrochloric acid was reported at the municipal swimming pool in Kiryat Gat, leaving nine people with minor injuries. Magen David Adom (MDA) confirmed that two victims were transported to the hospital by ambulance, while three others sought medical attention independently. An investigation into the cause of the leak is underway.
Nine people sustained minor injuries this Wednesday morning following a hydrochloric acid leak at the municipal swimming pool in Kiryat Gat. Five of the victims—two children and three adults—were admitted to Barzilai Medical Center after inhaling toxic fumes. Their condition is reported to be stable and light.
According to Magen David Adom (MDA), two of the injured were evacuated to the hospital by emergency teams, while three others traveled there independently. Four additional individuals received treatment on-site.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:45, following reports of a 100-liter acid spill within the pool complex. The circumstances surrounding the leak remain under investigation. Firefighting crews arrived at the scene to scan the facility for any further casualties and utilized specialized detectors to monitor the concentration of the substance in the surrounding air.
Emergency teams are currently working to dilute the acid and neutralize the hazard. The area remains cordoned off until authorities can confirm that there is no further risk to the public. Residents have been advised to stay away from the site.
