Netanyahu Criticizes UK Over Intelligence Sharing and Sanctions Following RAF Fairford Incident
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized the UK for imposing sanctions after Israel shared intelligence on an alleged Iranian plot, as British authorities investigate potential state involvement in a security breach near RAF Fairford.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Israel provided British authorities with advanced intelligence regarding an anticipated Iranian-sponsored attack on British soil.
"We gave the Brits the intel that there was going to be an attack, an Iranian-sponsored attack, and pretty much the next day they slapped sanctions on us. So it’s wild. I mean, the caving in, the collapse before the Islamist-Marxist alliance is very dangerous for the future of the West," Netanyahu stated.
The remarks coincide with a major investigative development as British Prime Minister Keir Starmer indicated that authorities hold strong indications of Iranian involvement in an incident near RAF Fairford.
Strong Indications of Iranian Involvement
British officials informed the BBC that strong indications point to Iranian involvement in the weekend events at RAF Fairford, though no specific findings were disclosed.
This statement marks a significant shift from the initial days of the investigation, during which British authorities refrained from attributing the incident to a foreign state.
Five Suspects Released on Bail
According to reports in British media, one of the five men arrested at the scene placed an emergency call to police himself during the night, prior to a local farmer reporting masked individuals and suspicious vehicles.
Police reported that the suspect called emergency services at 00:45. Nearly an hour later, a local farmer called police after spotting three commercial vehicles and masked individuals near the military base.
Law enforcement did not disclose the content of the suspect's call or why he contacted authorities. Lawrence Taylor, head of counter-terrorism policing, stated that the security response relied on a broad range of information.
The incident unfolded near the village of Whelford, adjacent to RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. A local farmer reported blocked roads and a large group of masked men in the area.
Following the reports, armed police and bomb disposal teams deployed to the scene. A 400-meter security perimeter was established around the vehicles, and approximately 85 local homes were evacuated.
Initial fears centered on potential explosives inside the vehicles, though subsequent searches revealed no explosive devices, only a quantity of fuel.
The five arrested men are British citizens aged 23 to 25. Four reside in the Westminster area of London and the fifth in Camden. Initially arrested on explosives offenses, they were later held on suspicion of preparing acts of terrorism before being released on bail.
Police explained that the release does not conclude the investigation, with Taylor describing it as an investigative decision based on strategy, accompanied by strict conditions on movement and communication.
International Reactions and Strategic Context
US President Donald Trump expressed disappointment over the bail release, noting that American authorities would not have taken such a step.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the incident clearly involved foreign interference, though without naming a specific country. Asked about a potential Iranian link, Trump remarked that it was possible.
RAF Fairford serves as a sensitive military installation utilized by the US Air Force for strategic bombers operating in Europe and the Middle East. Recent months have seen American bombers launch missions from the base following British approval for operations concerning Iran, which previously warned that bases facilitating actions against it could be regarded as legitimate targets.
