Border Police officer Sergeant David Hoyer Amrani was shot and killed by security forces during a shooting incident on Saturday evening in Netanya. The circumstances of the event are currently under investigation.
Sergeant David Hoyer Amrani, 20, a resident of Netanya, enlisted for compulsory service in the Border Police in August 2024. Upon completing his training, he was stationed in Hebron under the Judea and Samaria Border Police district, and approximately eight months ago, he transferred to the 39th Company of the same district. He is survived by his parents and two siblings.
The incident began around 7:00 PM when the officer, wearing civilian clothes and armed with a long weapon, began firing toward residential buildings in the Kiryat HaSharon neighborhood, near the municipal stadium. Civilians in the area fled to their homes and alerted emergency services and the police.
Police teams arriving at the scene came under fire from Amrani, responded quickly, and neutralized him. Magen David Adom (MDA) medical teams reported no other casualties in the incident. Initially, there was suspicion of a terror attack, but police shortly after ruled out a nationalist motive, confirming the shooter was an active-duty Border Police officer.
