Negev Bedouin Leaders Urge Arab Lawmakers to Join Next Government
Negev Bedouin leaders urge Arab MKs to join the next government, prioritizing domestic issues like crime and housing over Middle East politics.

Bedouin community leaders in the Negev have called on Arab Knesset members to join the upcoming government and actively participate in decision-making. Speaking on Monday, local leaders urged representatives of Arab parties to focus on pressing internal issues rather than regional Middle East affairs.
Rahat Mayor Talal Al-Krinawi stated that the high voter turnout among Arab citizens reflects a strong desire to influence government policy and improve living conditions. He emphasized that elected officials should seek to integrate into the governing coalition or provide a safety net to address urgent community needs.
"We voted for change, and we want to be an integral part of that change," Al-Krinawi said. He added that lawmakers must prioritize domestic challenges such as crime, housing shortages, employment, and education, noting that regional geopolitical matters should be left to other officials.
Atiya Al-Atawneh, chairman of the Regional Council for Unrecognized Negev Villages, echoed these sentiments, stressing that political integration is essential to ending marginalization. Al-Atawneh highlighted the severe housing crisis in the Negev, pointing out that approximately 3,000 families have lost their homes in recent years due to demolitions without adequate alternatives.
Community leaders also called for urgent government action against rising crime, extortion, and violence, alongside increased investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. They stressed that proper development in localities, including unrecognized villages, will reduce poverty and foster economic integration.
