MK Naama Lazimi Named to TIME100 Next 2026 List of Rising Global Stars

Naama Lazimi, No. 2 on the electoral list of "The Democrats" party for the Knesset, has received international recognition: the Knesset member was named one of TIME magazine's 100 most promising figures in the TIME100 Next 2026: The World's Most Influential Rising Stars list.

TIME explained its selection of Lazimi by citing her popularity among the embattled Israeli left, as well as the core issues she aims to advance following the upcoming elections.

International Recognition and Political Focus

"On July 14, left-wing MK Naama Lazimi took to the Knesset podium and delivered a speech that brought the right-wing Knesset Speaker to tears. The subject at hand was poverty and public housing—fraught issues in a dense, complex nation still reeling from the October 7, 2023 attacks."

Lazimi, a charismatic leader within "The Democrats", has been defined as a "superstar" of the embattled Israeli left, which is no longer defined solely by support for a peace agreement with the Palestinians (a cause she supports). Her primary focus centers on the deepening fractures within Israeli society and the authoritarian shift in governance under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Vision Ahead of October Elections

If the opposition wins the October 27 elections, the 40-year-old Lazimi aims to work toward distributing state resources and the burden of obligations more equitably, stating: "The fact that democracy is treated today within the Ministry of Education as an uncomfortable or progressive value—that is a problem."

Responding to the honor in a post on X, Lazimi wrote: "Extremely moved and grateful to TIME magazine for choosing me as one of the world's 100 most promising leaders. This recognition of our struggle and work fills us with air right before the most important elections Israel has ever known."
