A facility near the Kapotnya oil refinery in Moscow was targeted by a drone on Sunday, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. There were no casualties reported, and the extent of the damage is currently being assessed. Ukraine has not yet claimed responsibility for the strike.
The Kapotnya refinery is the largest in Moscow, supplying about 35-40% of the capital's fuel consumption. The facility has faced repeated attacks since last June, including two major strikes days apart. Analysts estimate repair costs could reach one billion billion dollars, with restoration not expected to be fully completed before 2027.
This attack follows a massive aerial wave reported by the mayor, who stated that over 350 drones were spotted over Moscow skies, with Russian air defenses intercepting dozens. Consequently, two international airports, Vnukovo and Domodedovo, temporarily suspended operations amid the ongoing escalation between Russia and Ukraine.
