Mont Blanc Height Increases by Nearly Two Meters Due to Snow Buildup
Mont Blanc has grown by 1.88 meters over the past three years, reaching a height of 4,807.47 meters due to a thickening layer of snow and ice, halting a recent downward trend.

The height of Mont Blanc now stands at 4,807.47 meters, marking an increase of 1.88 meters over the past three years. This measurement was released by the surveyors office in the Haute-Savoie department during a presentation in the French town of Saint-Gervais, driven by a thickening layer of snow and ice.
French technicians ascended to the peak to conduct on-site measurements on September 17. Scientists analyzing the findings explained that altitude fluctuations depend on the thickness of the frozen shell covering the rock, noting that the ice cap is subject to highly dynamic phenomena of snow accumulation, precipitation, wind, movement, and redistribution.
The current rise halts a consecutive downward trend recorded in recent years, though the summit remains lower than it was at the beginning of the century. Between 2000 and 2010, the mountain averaged around 4,810 meters in height, before dropping to 4,807.81 meters in 2021 and falling to a low of 4,805.59 meters in 2023.
