Reigning Miss Austria Lucia Sisic has died at the age of 22. The organizer Mission Austria confirmed the death of the titleholder, who was born with a congenital heart condition.
Lucia Sisic, the reigning Miss Austria, has died at the age of 22, according to reports in the country. The cause of death has not yet been publicly disclosed.
Sisic was crowned Miss Austria in 2024 and, according to reports, continued to hold the title as no subsequent pageants had been held since. She was born with a congenital heart valve defect and had undergone several surgeries over the years.
«It is with great shock and deep sadness that we have learned of the death of our Miss Austria 2024, Lucia Sisic,» wrote the organization Mission Austria, which selects Miss and Mister Austria, in a Facebook post. «We will remember Lucia as a wonderful young woman. Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to her family, friends, and all her loved ones during this difficult time.»
The post was signed by Mission Austria CEO Kerstin Rieger and her husband Jörg: «Dear Lucia, you will always remain a part of our Miss Austria family. Rest in peace.»
According to the newspaper Die Presse, Sisic underwent her most recent heart surgery this past winter. In August 2024, she shared a post on Instagram thanking a team of pediatric cardiology specialists, writing: «Thanks to the dedicated experts and doctors who always saved my life with tremendous effort, I overcame many difficult moments and was able to live a full life.»
