The 2026 Michelin Guide has awarded its prestigious Michelin Key to 189 hotels across the Middle East, Africa, and India, with India leading at 47 properties followed by South Africa and Morocco.
The global Michelin Guide has published its 2026 hotel rankings, awarding the prestigious Michelin Key distinction to 189 properties across the Middle East, Africa, and India. India leads the regional list with 47 recognized hotels, including two historic palaces that achieved the maximum rating. In second place is South Africa with 32 winning properties, followed by Morocco in third place with 31 hotels.
Rounding out the top five are the United Arab Emirates in fourth place with 25 decorated hotels—led by the Atlantis The Royal in Dubai—and Saudi Arabia in fifth place with 17 properties, highlighted by the Desert Rock resort. Guide experts emphasize that the anonymous evaluations assess quality, service consistency, architecture, and value for money.
A total of varying key tiers were distributed across the region, where a single key indicates a very special stay and two keys signify an exceptional experience. The Michelin ranking highlights a growing industry trend toward personalized hospitality with a distinct local character and a deep connection to the surrounding environment.
