Michael Douglas Drops Bombshell Memoir: Secret Romances, Cocaine and Oscar Threats
Hollywood icon Michael Douglas releases a candid new memoir titled 'One Helluva Ride,' exposing secret on-set affairs, fierce rivalries, cocaine battles, and a terrifying 1992 Oscar threat.

Michael Douglas, one of Hollywood's most enduring icons, is opening up about his tumultuous life and illustrious career in a candid new memoir titled One Helluva Ride. At 82 years old, the legendary actor and two-time Oscar winner holds nothing back, detailing secret affairs, fierce Hollywood rivalries, substance abuse, and even a chilling assassination threat.
Speaking to the press about the memoir, Douglas admitted that he is surprisingly hard on himself in the book. "I found myself in situations where it looked like I was the bad guy," he noted. The revelations span decades of cinematic history, offering a rare and unfiltered glimpse behind the velvet curtain of global stardom.
Secret Affairs and On-Set Romances
Among the most explosive revelations is Douglas's confirmation that he and Kathleen Turner engaged in a secret, multi-year affair during the filming of the 1984 romantic adventure Romancing the Stone. Although undeniable on-screen chemistry fueled speculation for decades, the co-stars repeatedly denied the rumors to protect their families. Douglas writes that the romance ultimately ended after his first wife, Diandra Luker, confronted Turner directly on set.
Douglas also admits to an intense romance with actress Jeanne Tripplehorn during the production of Basic Instinct, a relationship that largely flew under the radar while the media was obsessively speculating about a connection between Douglas and Sharon Stone. "I was crazy about her," Douglas writes, though he ultimately recognized the need for restraint.
Hollywood Chaos and Personal Struggles
Beyond his romantic entanglements, Douglas opens up about his heavy cocaine use during the 1970s and 1980s, admitting that the substance abuse contributed significantly to the breakdown of his first marriage. He even recounts a bizarre night of partying with O.J. Simpson and Rolling Stone co-founder Jann Wenner.
I was overwhelmed, I was under a ton of pressure, and I started getting deeper and deeper into cocaine. I think it played a huge part in the failure of my first marriage and my decision to go to rehab.
Perhaps most terrifyingly, Douglas reveals that during the 1992 Academy Awards ceremony, an FBI agent pulled him aside to warn him of a credible death threat: an individual inside the venue was allegedly planning to stab him with an HIV-infected needle. Despite being petrified, Douglas carried on and presented an award alongside Jodie Foster, nervously scanning the audience for potential threats.
