Mexican Authorities Raid Hidden Cryptocurrency Mining Farm in Puebla
Mexican authorities raided a hidden cryptocurrency mining farm in Puebla state, seizing hundreds of computers and investigating potential power theft and money laundering.

Mexican authorities have uncovered a hidden cryptocurrency mining farm in the mountainous region of Tlalola, Puebla state, following an investigation into suspected illegal use of power infrastructure.
Joint Raid Uncovers Massive Crypto Farm
A joint raid by federal prosecutors, the Mexican Navy, and security forces seized approximately 300 specialized computers for digital currency mining, around 80 medium-voltage terminals, and eight satellite internet antennas. The facility has been confiscated, and an investigation is underway to determine who was behind the operation and what its scope was.
The primary suspicion is that the facility utilized electricity stolen illegally from infrastructure connected to a nearby hydroelectric system. Cryptocurrency mining requires massive computing power, resulting in exceptionally high electricity consumption.
Investigation into Potential Money Laundering
According to authorities, investigators are also examining whether the coins generated by the facility were used to launder funds originating from criminal activity. At this stage, these are lines of inquiry rather than a formal determination that the farm was used for money laundering. While mining itself is not illegal in Mexico, this case involves large-scale power theft that disrupts regional electricity supplies.
"Setting up such a site requires significant technical expertise, funding, and infrastructure, which may point to organized crime involvement, though the connection is still being investigated," noted security analyst David Saucedo, according to Reuters.
This event carries broader significance as it is not an isolated incident in the region. Three similar mining farms have been discovered in the vicinity since the beginning of 2025, prompting authorities to expand searches to neighboring areas.
