"Measure for measure": Threats against Bnei Brak station commander lead to indictment
A resident of Modi'in Illit is accused of posting threats in a WhatsApp group against the commander of the Bnei Brak-Ramat Gan station against the backdrop of protests on Highway 4. Among other things, he called him a "terrorist" and wrote: "What they do - will be done to him." An indictment for threats has been filed against him.
Moshe Cohen, 44, from Modi'in Illit, was arrested following messages he posted in a WhatsApp group referring to the commander of the Bnei Brak-Ramat Gan station, against the backdrop of protests on Highway 4. On Sunday, upon the completion of the investigation, the Tel Aviv District Prosecution Unit filed an indictment against him and a request for detention until the end of proceedings.
At the center of the indictment are several messages that Cohen posted in the group. In one of them, he wrote about the station commander:
"Apart from 'if someone comes to kill you, rise up...' terrorist Yuval Shavit, may his name be blotted out."
In another message, he wrote: "One must act measure for measure, what they do - will be done to him."
Following these messages, an investigation was opened at the Mesubim station. After the information reached investigators, they located Cohen, arrested him, and transferred him for questioning, at the end of which he was imprisoned.
According to the police, a number of threatening statements posted by Cohen in the WhatsApp group and directed at the station commander were collected during the investigation. The background to the matter, according to the police, was the protests that took place on Highway 4.
With the completion of the investigation, the case is moving to court. Cohen is standing trial for the offense of threats, and the prosecution is requesting to keep him behind bars until the end of the legal proceedings.
