Friends Cast Declines to Participate in New Matthew Perry Documentary
Three years after the tragic passing of Matthew Perry, Netflix is releasing a new documentary series. However, his former Friends castmates have chosen not to participate.

Matthew Perry is etched into the collective memory of millions of viewers worldwide thanks to his iconic role as Chandler Bing in the beloved series Friends. For ten seasons, Perry showcased sharp humor, witty sarcasm, and a huge heart that made him one of television's most cherished actors.
Alongside meteoric success and unforgettable chemistry with his castmates, Perry maintained close ties with his on-screen partners long after the show ended in 2004. He frequently praised Jennifer Aniston for consistently checking in on him more than anyone else over the years.
Now, marking three years since his passing, Netflix will soon release a new three-part documentary series titled The One About Matthew Perry, directed by Mary Robertson, which aims to present the man behind the comedic mask. However, in a somewhat surprising move, his five main castmates - Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer - have decided not to participate.
According to sources who spoke with Page Six, the stars were officially approached but chose to decline. Among other reasons, it was noted that for Aniston, public engagement with the loss and the need to grieve in front of cameras are simply too difficult. Instead, the series will focus on testimonies from other colleagues and friends in his life, as well as a first-ever interview with his sister, Mia Perry Bouick, who will speak about the complexities of his life and legacy.
This documentary project follows the shocking event on October 28, 2023, when Perry's body was found at his Pacific Palisades home at the age of 54. It was later determined that his death was caused by the acute effects of ketamine, a scandal that shook Hollywood and led to indictments against five individuals - including his personal assistant and two doctors - who pleaded guilty, with four of them currently serving prison sentences.
