Republican Congressman Thomas Massie stated during a session in the House of Representatives that he characterizes the war in Gaza as a "genocide".

"I have drawn attention to the Middle East war where 75,000 people have been killed, 50,000 of them civilians - children just wanting to live their lives," Massie said. "I think it is a genocide. I call it a genocide.

Massie's remarks came during a speech attacking House leadership after Republican Speaker Mike Johnson announced the chamber would recess a day early. This move effectively delays Massie's push to force a vote on ousting Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth until after the midterms.

Massie had introduced an impeachment resolution with eight articles against Hegseth, accusing him of continuing the war involving Iran without congressional approval and violating war powers. Massie previously attempted to cut military aid to Israel.
