Renowned former footballer Maor Melikson said goodbye to his good friend Ran Marciano, who was killed in an electric scooter accident in Yavne. Melikson shared a moving message in an Instagram story in memory of his friend, with whom he grew up and played in the Maccabi Yavne youth department.
Marciano was killed after being hit by a private car while riding an electric scooter. He was evacuated to the hospital in critical condition, but his death was pronounced there at the age of 42. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
Melikson, who during his career played for Beitar Jerusalem, Maccabi Haifa, and Hapoel Be'er Sheva, and later in Poland and France, maintained contact over the years with Marciano, his fellow townsman and close friend. In the story he published, he wrote:
"Ran Marciano, may his memory be blessed. Always in my heart, brother. Just this week we talked about life and families. Always smiling, always encouraging, and always positive. God's ways are mysterious."
Melikson and Marciano, both born in 1984, grew up together in Yavne and played together in the Maccabi Yavne youth department, before Melikson continued to a professional career that made him one of the most prominent footballers in Israel.
