Despite Trump's threats: Qatar has yet to decide whether to join the "economic blockade" on Iran
Regarding international measures against Iran, Majed Al-Ansari noted that Qatar has not yet formulated a final position on supporting the new sanctions imposed on Tehran. Regarding the Palestinian arena, he called on the international community to exert political pressure to force Israel to accept the political framework.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said on Tuesday: "In recent times, our efforts have continued with the US and Iran to resume negotiations."
"We emphasized from the first day that any escalation in the region would have global consequences. The situation in the Strait of Hormuz must return to what it was before the crisis, and we emphasize the necessity of freedom of navigation within it," the Qatari spokesperson declared.
He added: "We reject Iran's attempt to drag the countries of the region in every time it is attacked by a third party. There is full coordination between the Gulf states to handle various scenarios of escalation."
Regarding Jerusalem, Al-Ansari said: "If Israel wants to truly become part of the region, it must fulfill its obligations."
Regarding the sanctions on Iran, the Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson said at the press conference: "We have not yet made a decision on supporting sanctions on Iran."
Regarding the strikes in the Gaza Strip, Al-Ansari noted: "Israel's actions contradict its desire to be part of the region. Our position is clear — pressure must be exerted on Israel to accept the Trump plan in Gaza."
Al-Ansari concluded by saying: "By closing the Strait of Hormuz, Iran violated international laws and the situation there must be restored to its previous state. We continue our efforts to ensure Iran's return to negotiations, but so far there is no new development. What is important to Qatar is the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring the supply chain through diplomatic solutions."
