According to a report by the Jewish Chronicle, the incident occurred after travelers on a flight from Tel Aviv cleared customs, only to be asked where they had arrived from and directed to a separate waiting queue.
Passenger Accounts and Allegations
Charlotte, a 56-year-old passenger traveling with her family, recounted that she only realized all waiting passengers were from the same flight after joining the line. "We were among the first told to wait, and more and more people joined. We saw everyone was from our flight. There were quite a few people with babies, and passengers grew tired and upset," she said, adding that people began muttering about racial profiling. Another passenger, Nicola Goldberg from Leeds, described similar treatment, noting that travelers from other European destinations were allowed to pass freely while those from Tel Aviv faced mandatory checks.
The UK Home Office strongly rejected allegations of antisemitism or racial bias. A government spokesperson stated that border force officers conduct searches based on intelligence, evidence, and operational requirements, emphasizing that an individual's origin, religion, or other protected characteristics never constitute grounds for a search.

This incident follows a series of controversies at Luton Airport, including a March incident where airport management apologized after an Israeli author was allegedly harassed by security staff over a sweater bearing the phrase 'End Jew hatred'. Additionally, UKLFI director Caroline Turner called for an urgent explanation, demanding assurances that Israeli and Jewish travelers are not receiving differential treatment.
"If passengers arriving from Tel Aviv were indeed targeted for searches at Luton Airport, this is an extremely concerning matter that requires an urgent explanation."
