Prison security cameras captured an attorney passing drugs to an inmate during a visit. The suspect has been arrested and will face a court hearing to extend her detention.
An attorney from Beit Shemesh was arrested on Tuesday night on suspicion of attempting to smuggle 30 pills, believed to be cocaine, to an inmate during a prison visit. According to investigators, she met with an inmate recently arrested in a high-profile fraud case and passed him a package while hugging him. This incident was documented by prison security cameras and serves as a central piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The arrest was carried out as part of a joint operation by the Sdot police station and the Israel Prison Service. The suspected substances have been seized for forensic testing. While the inmate provided his version of events during questioning, the attorney has denied the allegations at this stage. Police are expected to bring her before a court today to request an extension of her detention.
Major General Yossi Doron, commander of the Prison YAMR unit, stated:
“We are working to close all routes for introducing drugs into prisons: drones, visitors, trash facilities—as was the case with a recent attempt to smuggle drugs into a cell—and any other method used for trafficking.”
“When attorneys, who are supposed to be part of the law enforcement system, are suspected of exploiting their status to smuggle drugs, it is a crossing of a red line. Two attorneys have been arrested in the past two weeks as part of our joint activity with investigative units, and we will continue to act decisively against any attempt to introduce drugs into prisons.”
