i24NEWS team attacked in Belfast: cameraman injured
An i24NEWS crew filming a report on antisemitism in Belfast was violently attacked. An angry passerby, upon discovering the team was from Israel, began making threats and threw a glass at the cameraman, causing a bleeding head injury.
i24NEWS correspondent Yonatan Rohe and cameraman Nadav Abes were attacked while filming a report on antisemitism in Belfast. The cameraman sustained a head injury after a glass cup was thrown at him. The incident occurred last week, and both have since returned to Israel.
While filming in a bar district, the team was interviewing locals when an angry man realized they were from Israel. He attempted to seize their camera equipment and disrupted the shoot with obscene gestures, forcing the team to stop filming.
As the crew attempted to de-escalate and leave the area, the assailant approached the cameraman in a threatening manner. After the team called for assistance from nearby security personnel, the attacker grabbed a large beer glass and threw it with force at the cameraman, causing a bleeding cut on his head. No further medical treatment was required, and both are doing well.
Yonatan Rohe has been extensively covering rising global antisemitism in recent months. He has previously produced special projects on the subject in Spain and New York, which aired on the i24NEWS main edition and international channels. This marks Rohe's third documentary series on the topic, which is scheduled to air in the coming weeks on i24NEWS (channel 15).
