LAPD Investigates Israeli-Linked Retail Group Over Alleged Fraud
The Los Angeles Police Department investigates Israeli-linked Mazal Group after allegations that employees coerced a disabled customer into paying over $50,000 for cosmetics.
The Los Angeles Police Department has launched an investigation into the Israeli-linked Mazal Group following allegations that its employees defrauded a vulnerable customer out of tens of thousands of dollars. According to a report by CBS News, a 30-year-old disabled man named Victor Chisholm was billed $41,747 for skincare products and cosmetics, along with an exorbitant $10,120 in tips.
Investigation Details and Allegations
Chisholm, who lives in supported housing near the Westfield Topanga mall, received a large financial settlement following a traffic accident several years ago. When he sought assistance from a family member to pay a phone bill, he discovered that his funds had been severely depleted. An investigation revealed that Chisholm had made the massive payments at a mall kiosk operated under the Bee & Co brand.
The customer reported that kiosk employees pressured him in a backroom, shouting at him and refusing to let him leave until he handed over his credit card. Following the initial report, another customer named Gabe Cota came forward, stating he was targeted by the same kiosk and coerced into spending over $3,000.
"The employees took me into a backroom, shouted at me and refused to let me leave until I gave them my credit card," recalled Victor Chisholm regarding the incident.
Broader Legal Actions and Response
A class-action lawsuit has been filed against Bee & Co on behalf of more than 100 clients, claiming collective losses approaching one million dollars. The company has denied the allegations. Meanwhile, the Better Business Bureau has given the firm an F rating due to dozens of unresolved consumer complaints. The Westfield Topanga mall management stated that the allegations are deeply disturbing and that they are reviewing potential legal actions against the merchant.
