Lod: 5-year-old child dies after being left in a car
A five-year-old child was found unconscious in a vehicle in Lod after being left inside for several hours. Despite resuscitation efforts by MDA paramedics, the child was later declared dead at the hospital.
A tragedy occurred in Lod today, Sunday, as a five-year-old child was found unconscious inside a vehicle. According to preliminary information, the family had returned home, and the child apparently fell asleep in the car and was left behind. About two hours later, the father discovered him and alerted emergency services.
Medics and paramedics provided urgent medical treatment and performed resuscitation efforts after finding the child in critical condition with signs of heatstroke. He was evacuated to the Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, where doctors later declared his death.
Police officers from the Lod station have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
MDA medic Efi Rosenblum, the first responder on the scene, recounted:
"I live on a nearby street and was driving when I received a call via the emergency responders app. People at the scene signaled me to stop. They had pulled a child from a private car who had reportedly been locked inside for a long time. He was very hot to the touch, and I immediately began resuscitation efforts. Additional teams and an intensive care ambulance soon arrived, and we continued the life-saving efforts together while transporting him to the hospital."
According to data from the Beterem organization for child safety, between 2021 and 2025, 23 children lost their lives after being forgotten or trapped in vehicles. During the same period, 53 children were injured in similar incidents, while 1,513 were rescued safely.
