Lod District Court Convicts Man for Brutal Robbery of Elderly Woman

The Lod District Court convicted Khaled Asrawi, an illegal resident from Illar, of robbing and assaulting an 86-year-old woman in her Kadima home. The attack left the elderly victim living in constant fear and requiring hospitalization.
The Brutal Attack and Robbery
According to the indictment, Asrawi broke into the victim's home through a living room window during the afternoon hours. Wielding a screwdriver, he threatened to kill her and stabbed her in the abdomen and back before knocking her to the floor. Despite her pleas and mentioning she was the age of his mother, he tore gold necklaces from her neck, stole a ring and a watch, and fled.
The victim suffered hand injuries, high blood pressure, and spent three days at Laniado Hospital. In her testimony, she described the harrowing experience and her ongoing trauma that forces her to keep her doors locked constantly.
Evidence and Conviction
"The totality of the evidence, including surveillance cameras, phone tracking, fingerprints, and changing versions, proves beyond a reasonable doubt that he committed the acts," ruled Judge Dana Marshak Marom.
Although the victim could not positively identify the attacker, the prosecution built a robust circumstantial case. Evidence included CCTV footage placing Asrawi near the scene, vehicle tracking, and three fingerprints found on a rear window. Asrawi changed his alibi multiple times during police interrogations, ultimately placing himself inside the home only after being confronted with his physical prints.
The court formally convicted him of aggravated robbery, assault of an elderly woman causing actual bodily harm, domestic burglary, malicious property damage, and illegal entry into Israel.
