Police arrested 24 suspects in a major public corruption and bribery investigation, including the head of a central district local authority, his wife, and an economic company CEO.

Following a year-long covert investigation by the National Fraud Unit (YAHAK) in Lahav 433, authorities transitioned to an open probe. Investigators suspect that the officials accepted substantial cash bribes to rig municipal tenders in favor of specific business figures.

The investigation also revealed alleged involvement of known criminal elements from central Israel who participated in the bribery mechanism and violent offenses. Suspects were brought in for questioning, and police seized assets and funds during simultaneous raids.

The case is being handled by the Economic Department of the State Attorney's Office, with police expected to request custody extensions at the Rishon LeZion Magistrates' Court.
