Media personality Lior Schleien, partner of Knesset member Merav Michaeli, is currently advancing plans to construct a large private residence in northern Tel Aviv. The project recently came before the Tel Aviv-Yafo Local Planning and Building Committee, though obtaining a building permit is currently conditioned on additional reviews and completions.

The initiative involves a 510-square-meter plot near the Afeka and Neve Avivim neighborhoods, which Schleien purchased in December 2022 from retired Magistrate Court Judge Blanche Kay for approximately 13.7 million shekels.

According to the submitted plans, the existing 240-square-meter structure on the plot is slated for demolition. It will be replaced by a three-story private home above a basement level, totaling approximately 450 square meters of built space. The design features a 140-square-meter basement, a 126-square-meter ground floor, a 107-square-meter first floor, and a 25-square-meter rooftop exit room alongside an open roof partially covered by a pergola.

The proposed structure includes a request for an approximately 6% deviation in permitted building rights. Conversely, contrary to the prevailing trend for luxury properties in the area, no request was submitted for the construction of a swimming pool in the courtyard.

This move marks a lifestyle shift for the couple and their three children, who currently reside in two separate apartments in a residential building in the city center. Relocating from bustling central Tel Aviv to a small, quiet street bordering Tel Aviv University, characterized by a mix of villas and low-rise construction, reflects a growing trend among housing upgraders in the central region.
