Senior Transport Ministry Official Or Libis Resigns Over Wizz Air Dispute
Or Libis, Senior VP of Economics and Strategy at the Ministry of Transport, is resigning after three years due to frustration over stalled reforms and the collapsed Wizz Air base project.
After three years in office, Globes has learned that Or Libis, Senior VP of Economics, Budgets and Strategy at the Ministry of Transport, is leaving his post.
Alongside his main duties, Libis has recently served as acting VP of Administration and Human Resources. He spearheaded the steering committee for the 2050 transport strategic plan and advanced Wizz Air's base establishment in Israel. No replacement has been named yet.
Sources indicate Libis's departure stems from frustration over halted initiatives, particularly the ministry's withdrawal from establishing the Wizz Air base. Previously, Israel allowed Wizz Air to overnight aircraft locally, but negotiations collapsed after Wizz Air delayed restoring operations following Operation Roaring Lion.
Libis also pushed for regulations permitting foreign carriers to set up local bases, but the initiative was shelved due to opposition from Civil Aviation Authority head Shmuel Zakai. Libis will become CEO of Netivei LaIr, the concessionaire for Ayalon Highway express lanes.
