TV Host Guy Lerer Sues Netanyahu Aide Yonatan Urich Over Defamation
Channel 13 host Guy Lerer is suing Prime Minister Netanyahu's aide Yonatan Urich for defamation over fabricated ratings data, following a major WhatsApp data leak controversy.

Guy Lerer, host of Channel 13's HaTsinor and one of Israel's most prominent media personalities, is taking legal action against Yonatan Urich, a close aide to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The dispute erupted following a major security breach involving Urich's WhatsApp account and the exposure of private correspondence. Lerer's team used these leaks to report on alleged coordination between the Likud campaign and Ofer Winter's party, as well as political advice provided by commentator Amit Segal. Urich dismissed the leaked materials as fabricated and threatened libel lawsuits against journalists.
The tension escalated when Urich posted a graph on X claiming a sharp decline in Lerer's show ratings from 2016 to 2026. In response, Lerer's legal counsel issued a formal warning letter over the publication of false and defamatory data. Lerer stated that his decision to sue stems from Urich's immense political power, the automated use of misleading tools, and what he described as a complete lack of conscience. Lerer added that legal experts Ilan Bombach and Yuval Yoaz are handling the case, and asked his followers where the settlement money should be donated once won.
Additional Political Fronts
This legal battle follows another public dispute initiated by Lerer against Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar. Lerer posted a sharp criticism on social media, targeting Sa'ar over his political stance and recent statements regarding the legal proceedings against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Sa'ar had criticized the prosecution's handling of the trial, arguing that the bribery charges should be re-evaluated and pointing to severe systemic failures within the legal enforcement agencies.
The unfolding conflict highlights the increasingly tense intersection between Israeli media figures, political advisors, and the legal system. As Lerer proceeds with his lawsuit against Urich, the episode underscores the high stakes of digital security, public reputation, and political discourse in Israel's polarized environment.
