Lebanon Accuses Israel of Ceasefire Violations

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun accused Israel on Monday of failing to meet its obligations under the US-brokered agreement signed in June. Speaking in Baabda, Aoun stated that ongoing military activities in southern Lebanon undermine Beirut's efforts to implement the accord and expand state control.

The Israelis have not complied with the framework agreement, and the south remains subject to daily violations, Aoun said during a meeting with Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy.

Challenges to State Sovereignty

Aoun emphasized that these actions hinder government institutions from deploying the military in the south and establishing sovereignty in areas previously controlled by Hezbollah. Despite the criticism, he reaffirmed Lebanon's commitment to a diplomatic solution, noting that the price of peace is far lower than that of a destructive war.

Upcoming Tripartite Talks

Arab League chief Nabil Fahmy expressed support for Lebanon's government and pledged to rally diplomatic and economic backing from Arab and Western nations. The framework agreement, signed in Washington on June 26, outlines a roadmap for disarming Hezbollah, deploying the Lebanese army, and the gradual withdrawal of IDF forces.

Israel maintains that Hezbollah continues to retain weapons and rebuild military infrastructure, necessitating actions by the IDF to protect northern communities. Aoun's remarks precede a tripartite meeting of Israeli, Lebanese, and US representatives scheduled for tomorrow in Tampa, Florida.
