Average High-Tech Salary Jumps to Over 35,000 Shekels, Amidst Stagnant Hiring

The average salary in June 2026 stood at 15,223 shekels per month for Israeli employees, an increase of 7.7% compared to June 2025. The number of salaried positions reached 4.22 million, compared to 4.13 million in the previous June—an increase of 2%, slightly above the natural growth rate in Israel—reports the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) today (Tuesday) in its flash estimates for June. Final data for May also indicate a 6.6% increase in wages compared to the previous May.

However, the real drama lies in the wage and employment data in the high-tech sector: the average salary in high-tech in May 2026 stood at 35,760 shekels per month, compared to 31,459 shekels in May 2025. This is a jump of 13.7%, which is considered highly significant. Nevertheless, the number of positions remained frozen: 397.1 thousand positions in May of this year, compared to 396.4 thousand in May of last year.

Considering the significant growth in the number of positions in the rest of the economy, the share of high-tech workers continues to decline: only 9.5% compared to 9.7% in the previous month. Just a few years ago, the proportion of high-tech workers out of the total economy stood at 10%. This combination of wage increases and stagnation in the number of positions may be related to the artificial intelligence revolution, which is dramatically changing the high-tech field. It increases output, but renders redundant some of the programmers who were required until now.
