Murder trial of Benyahu Razi enters a new phase
The opening hearing in the murder trial of the six defendants accused of killing the late Benyahu Razi is being held this morning. This is a technical hearing to confirm that the defendants have understood the indictment.
This morning, Monday, the Jerusalem District Court held the opening hearing in the murder trial of the six defendants accused of killing the late Benyahu Razi, who was stabbed to death in a Nachlaot apartment. This stage involves the formal reading of the indictment—a technical hearing where evidence is not yet discussed on its merits, but rather serves to verify that the defendants have read and understood the charges. Future hearings will be scheduled for testimony.
Ten days ago, the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office filed two indictments against seven defendants in connection with the murder of Benyahu Razi, which occurred three weeks earlier, and the wounding of his friend.
Six of the defendants—four minors aged 15–17, 19-year-old Agam Tsarfi from Jerusalem, and 20-year-old Shilat Huta from Beersheba—are charged with intentional murder and aggravated battery. Additionally, the four minors are charged with illegal possession of a knife and obstruction of justice. 46-year-old Linor Sasson from Jerusalem is charged with accessory after the fact and obstruction of justice.
The prosecution has requested that the court order the defendants to be held in custody until the conclusion of all legal proceedings.
According to the indictments, Agam Tsarfi and the late Benyahu Razi had been in a romantic relationship. Days before the incident, Tsarfi and Huta rented an Airbnb apartment and invited the deceased and his friend to spend the weekend. Following an argument, the women left, claiming the deceased had been violent. They later met with Linor Sasson and the four minors, where they recounted the event. The group decided to attack the deceased, stating their intent to «finish him off.» The minors armed themselves with knives, a folding iron baton, an awl, razor blades, and a meat tenderizer.
Under the direction of Tsarfi and Huta, the group lured the deceased and his friend back to the apartment, where the confrontation turned fatal. The deceased was stabbed in the chest and hand, collapsing from a wound that penetrated his heart. His friend was also attacked with the meat tenderizer and stabbed. Following the incident, the group fled, with Linor Sasson allegedly assisting some in evading capture. One of the minors remained in hiding for over two weeks before being apprehended by the Israel Police.
