The father ran around the house, the son chased him with a speargun and fired

A 36-year-old resident of Neve Yamin repeatedly asked his father for money, and after the relationship between them deteriorated, he decided to harm him in a particularly unusual way: he prepared an improvised arrow from an iron rod, equipped himself with a speargun, arrived at his father's house, chased him, and shot him. After the father collapsed, it is alleged, his son approached him and said: "Say it was an accident."

According to the indictment filed in the District Court, the defendant lived in a housing unit adjacent to his parents' house on the same farm in the moshav of Neve Yamin. Between the defendant and his father, according to the prosecution, there was a tense relationship against the backdrop of the defendant's drug addiction and repeated financial demands from his father to fund their purchase.

About a month ago, during an argument between the two, the defendant noticed his father's dog, picked up a stone, and threw it in its direction. Afterward, it is alleged, he pushed his father and began hitting him with his hands. Later, he grabbed his arms, threw him to the floor, and returned to pushing and hitting him. Following the incident, the father turned to his neighbor and asked him to act as a mediator between him and his son, among other things for the transfer of funds, in an attempt to prevent further escalation in the relationship.

That same evening, the defendant arrived outside the living room window of his parents' house, threw a wooden brick at it, and told his father: "You are talking to the neighbor, I know you are talking to him, tell him to come and I will show him what's what." The next day, according to the indictment, he entered his father's car and crashed it into an external wall of one of the buildings on the farm, resulting in damage to the vehicle and the wall. In the days that followed, he allegedly sent his father a large number of taunting and threatening messages, to which the father did not respond.

In the indictment, it is claimed that a few days later, "the decision matured in the defendant's heart to harm his father using a speargun." Since he did not have a suitable arrow, he contacted a store specializing in fishing equipment via WhatsApp, inquired about purchasing another gun, and sent a picture of the speargun in his possession to see if a suitable arrow could be purchased for it. According to the indictment, he emphasized to the seller that it must reach him that same day and even asked several times about the possibility of express delivery. In the end, he did not purchase the equipment.

Instead, the prosecution claims, the defendant took a thin iron rod 52 centimeters long and made adjustments to it that allowed it to be fired using the speargun. Thus, according to the indictment, he created the "improvised arrow."

The next day, the defendant met with the neighbor and asked him to transfer more money to him from his father. The neighbor refused, after, according to the indictment, he had transferred 5,000 shekels from the father to the defendant the day before. He warned him that if he continued to pressure his father, the father might turn to the police. In response, it is alleged, the defendant cursed the neighbor and drove him out of his house. After the meeting, the neighbor told the father: "I talked to him, there is nothing to do, if he approaches you, go to the police."

About half an hour later, at approximately 18:15, the defendant arrived at his father's house holding the speargun with the improvised arrow inside. According to the indictment, he aimed the gun at his father and shouted: "If I am arrested, you...", but the father did not hear the rest of the sentence. The father began to run around the house, while his son, it is alleged, pursued him with the gun in his hand.

When the father reached the entrance to the house, it is alleged that the defendant came from behind him, stood at a distance of about four meters, raised the speargun toward his upper body, and fired. The improvised arrow hit his neck and spine and stopped very close to the spinal cord and the major blood vessels in the neck. The father managed to close and lock the door, and then collapsed on the floor of the house with the arrow stuck in his neck.

The defendant tried to open the house door and with the force of the pull tore the handle from its place. Afterward, he entered through the window into the living room, where his mother was trying to treat the father. He ordered her not to remove the arrow, approached his father who was lying on the floor, and said to him: "Say it was an accident." Afterward, he abandoned the speargun next to him.

The defendant is charged with offenses of aggravated assault with intent, simple assault, and malicious damage to a vehicle. In the second count, he is charged with possession of a dangerous drug not for personal consumption. Along with the indictment, the prosecution asked the court to order his detention until the end of the legal proceedings against him.
