The head of the Givat Ze'ev local council, Yossi Asraf, has been dealing with incitement and threats to his life in recent days. Some of those involved have been questioned, and one suspect has been arrested and will be brought to a court hearing. Following a situational assessment, the police raised the threat level against the head of the council to level 4 and increased security around him.
The Givat Ze'ev municipality stated:
"We view the incitement and attempts at intimidation with great severity. These threats are not directed only at the mayor personally, but constitute an attack on all municipal employees and elected officials who perform their work faithfully. The Givat Ze'ev municipality will continue to act for the benefit of the residents and maintain public order without fear."
Response from Mayor Yossi Asraf:
"I thank the Israel Police for their swift and uncompromising handling of the matter. Since taking office, we have been leading deep processes and necessary reforms in the city to restore order, correct years of distortions, and protect the public purse. It is only natural that various elements, who were accustomed to operating without interference and have now lost their centers of power and influence, are trying to intimidate and disrupt public work."
Asraf continued: "Nothing and no threat will harm our immense enthusiasm, the momentum of our work, and the historic progress in the transition of Givat Ze'ev from a local council to a city. I will continue to act for you and ensure that Givat Ze'ev will be a good and safe place to live."
