Maccabi Netanya Condemns Attack on Bnei Sakhnin Players

Following the violent incident on Monday at the end of the match between Maccabi Netanya and Bnei Sakhnin (0:0), when several vehicles belonging to the visiting players and their fans were attacked, the club published an official statement condemning the actions.

"The Maccabi Netanya Football Club strongly condemns any manifestation of violence, damage to property, or attempts to cause harm. Last night's events exceed any accepted norm and do not reflect the behavior of the club's dedicated and loyal fan base. Those responsible for these actions are acting in complete contradiction to the values and the sporting spirit that we strive to represent. Behavior of this kind harms Maccabi Netanya, the spirit of sport, and our broad fan base."

According to a statement from Bnei Sakhnin, among those involved was team player Iyad Abu Abaid, who was in the vehicle with his pregnant wife.

"According to the information in the club's possession, the vehicle of team player Iyad Abu Abaid was attacked while his pregnant wife was also in the vehicle with him," the statement said.

The club added that Abu Abaid tried to move away from the scene to avoid a confrontation. Later, he was stopped by the police and summoned to the station to provide testimony. Bnei Sakhnin noted that this was not an isolated incident, stating that the vehicle of player Ilay Hajaj was also attacked, along with a car carrying a group of fans, including a medical student.
