Maccabi Tel Aviv will likely have to look for another destination to strengthen the center of the defense. According to reports, Cypriot defender Stelios Andreou, who was among the candidates to join the 'yellows', is on his way to Portugal's Estoril and is expected to undergo medical examinations today ahead of the completion of the deal. According to the report, the outline of the deal between Estoril and Poland's Widzew Lodz includes a loan with a purchase option. Thus, it seems that the Portuguese club has beaten Maccabi Tel Aviv in the race for the services of the 24-year-old defender.

Andreou is considered one of the prominent defensive players of the Cyprus national team, for which he has already recorded 30 appearances and even scored one goal. He began his path in the youth department of Omonia Nicosia, before moving to Olympiacos Nicosia. In the summer of 2021, he was purchased by Belgium's Charleroi for about 265 thousand euros, and during three seasons at the club, he accumulated 126 appearances in all competitions, in which he scored three goals and assisted three others. Last summer, Widzew Lodz paid about 1.3 million euros to add him as part of a move to renew the squad, but his tenure in Poland did not take off. Andreou recorded 18 league appearances and four more in the cup, and at one point was even moved to the right-back position after the club strengthened with new center-backs during the winter transfer window. Now, if there is no last-minute change, he will continue his career in the Portuguese league.
