Rob Reiner's son pleads not guilty to murdering his parents: could face death penalty
Nick Reiner, the director's son, pleaded not guilty after being indicted for stabbing his parents to death. He is being held without bail, and if convicted, he could face life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty.
According to a report by Fox News, Nick Reiner pleaded not guilty on Wednesday after a grand jury indicted him for stabbing his parents to death — actor and director Rob Reiner and photographer and producer Michele Singer Reiner.
The indictment, filed on July 20 and unsealed on Wednesday, charges 32-year-old Reiner with two counts of murder and includes special circumstances of multiple victims and murder committed after lying in wait. Prosecutors also allege that he personally used a knife.
"This was a profound betrayal by a person who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing," said Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman. "The indictment unsealed today also adds a special circumstance that the defendant committed the murders after lying in wait for the victims. We hope that the grand jury's decision to indict in this case brings us one step closer to trial and achieving justice."
Prosecutors allege that Reiner stabbed his 78-year-old father and 70-year-old mother to death on December 14, 2025, at their home in Brentwood. Police arrested him later that evening in Exposition Park.
Reiner is being held in custody without the possibility of bail and is scheduled to return to court on September 15. If convicted on all charges, he could face life in state prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty. Prosecutors have not yet decided whether to seek the death penalty.
