Lebanese Prime Minister's X account hacked - post criticizing Israel disappears
A tweet by Nawaf Salam, Prime Minister of Lebanon, condemning IDF activity in the south of the country, was mysteriously deleted from his X account. Salam announced that an outside party managed to infiltrate his account, after which he published the original tweet again.
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced on Thursday that an unidentified party managed to infiltrate his account on the X network (formerly Twitter) and delete a message he had posted a day earlier, in which he sharply criticized Israel's activities in southern Lebanon. Following the discovery of the breach, Salam re-posted the deleted message, as reported by the Lebanese website "An-Nashra".
"I am re-posting what I wrote yesterday, after it became clear to me that someone managed to access my account to delete it," wrote Salam.
At this stage, no details have been published regarding the identity of the party that breached the account, and no evidence has been presented linking the incident to Israel or any other party.
In the post, Salam referred to IDF activity in several villages and towns in southern Lebanon, including Al-Mansouri, Zoutar El-Charqiyeh, and Kfar Tebnit. He claimed that the Israeli actions, including "attacks, incursions, bulldozing work, and the systematic destruction of homes, residential neighborhoods, infrastructure, government buildings, and houses of worship," constitute "a serious violation of the principles and rules of international law and international humanitarian law."
Salam also rejected the Israeli claim that some of the destruction is carried out due to the presence of military infrastructure:
"The claim that villages and towns, with all their homes, neighborhoods, government buildings, public facilities, houses of worship, and infrastructure, are all 'military facilities,' does not stand up to any logic and cannot serve as a cover for their destruction, the displacement of their residents, and the prevention of their return."
The Lebanese Prime Minister concluded the message by stating that "the sovereignty of Lebanon, the security of its residents, and the right of the residents of the south to return to their land and rebuild their villages are not subjects for negotiation." According to "An-Nashra," the original message was published on August 12 at 17:24, while Salam re-posted it on August 13 after discovering it had been deleted.
