Police Commissioner cancels appointments meeting following media leaks

At the last minute, Police Commissioner Rav-Nitzav Dani Levy announced today, Thursday, the cancellation of the senior command staff meeting intended to address the round of appointments for officers with the rank of Tat-Nitzav. According to sources familiar with the details, the Commissioner was furious that information regarding the expected appointments had leaked to the media and subsequently ordered the discussion cancelled.

The round of police appointments, already delayed for months, has been postponed once again. The senior command staff was scheduled to convene to discuss a series of appointments for officers with the rank of Tat-Nitzav, but shortly before the meeting, the Commissioner announced its cancellation.

According to sources, the decision was driven by Levy's anger following media leaks regarding the identity of the candidate officers and the specific positions the police leadership was set to discuss.

Following the cancellation, the round of Tat-Nitzav appointments will not proceed at this stage, and no decisions regarding the planned assignments are expected. Conversely, appointments for lower-ranking positions are expected to be carried out today.

The decision comes after a long period during which no senior-level appointment rounds were held. Today's discussion was intended to advance decisions on a number of positions following months of delays.

Among the names mentioned ahead of the meeting were Nitzav-Mishne Avi Varsano as the leading candidate for Asher District Commander, Nitzav-Mishne Dvir Tamim for Sharon District Commander, Nitzav-Mishne Avi Levy for Ayalon District Commander, and Nitzav-Mishne Nir Yona for Galil District Commander. However, these were identified only as leading candidates rather than confirmed appointments. Additionally, the position of Deputy Legal Advisor was slated for discussion, while the position of Head of the Spokesperson's Division was not included in the current round.
