Bus driver loses consciousness: passenger prevents disaster in Eilat

Attorney Tomer Bizini became a hero in a few moments, managing to prevent a major disaster. During a ride with his wife and children on a bus heading to the Coral Beach Nature Reserve in Eilat, Bizini noticed that the driver had lost consciousness. He jumped into the driver's cabin, took control of the steering wheel, and applied the brakes to stop the bus.

"I told myself that my children are on this bus, we must get out of this story," Bizini told ynet.

The Bizini family was on a weekend vacation to celebrate one of their daughters' birthdays. On Saturday afternoon, they boarded Egged line 15 at the hotel station. In total, there were about 20 passengers on the bus.

"Before the Leonardo Club hotel, the driver entered a roundabout, did not complete the turn, and went up onto the sidewalk. He hit a safety railing and uprooted it. At that moment, we thought an accident had occurred and he would stop. But he didn't," Bizini recalled. Shortly after, the bus hit a bus stop, shattering the front glass, and it became clear the driver was unconscious.

Bizini rushed to the cabin. Finding a gap in the shattered windshield, he climbed inside. "I grabbed the steering wheel while pressed against the glass. The bus kept moving. The driver's foot was on the brake pedal, but the bus didn't stop. I pushed his right leg, and then the bus started to slow down, and with my own foot, I pressed the brake," he explained.

After the bus stopped, Bizini managed to wake the driver. "He saw me on top of him and didn't understand why there was a passenger on his lap. I asked him to turn off the engine," he added. MADA and police arrived shortly after.

"Someone had to stand up and handle this incident, otherwise, I don't know what would have happened. It was mentally exhausting. I didn't dream of such a thing on vacation, but this is what was destined for me," Bizini concluded.
